Cash Rides — Unethical perhaps, but Necessary

Cash rides are an absolute staple to the business, your business. Remember, as a rideshare driver, you are a business, and cash is king. I recommend making some business cards for cash rides that have your phone number on them.

The magic number is $40.

If you offer to give a ride or someone offers you $40 for it, you can virtually take them anywhere in your regional jurisdiction. And you should this deal all of the time unless for some reason you feel unsafe. The best time to do this is when popular venues or areas empty out all of a sudden. When I drove Lyft one summer in Boston, I remember specifically driving around the Hampton Beach, NH area around 2AM. I am in Phoenix now, but this area was a gold mine. The key is to have your own spots that you know about.

Now the bars close around 1AM or 1:30AM up there, but 2AM is when there are absolutely NO Ubers around and there are still tons of “desperate drunkies” begging god for an Uber ride to take them only about 3 miles down the road or they have to walk… I was always kind of tired at this point because I had been driving for so long but I made a lot of money on cash rides up there on Friday and Saturday nights.

Remember to have anyone who gets in your car for a cash ride to pay you up front.

The “Unethical” entity here is that Lyft is getting screwed… Well, It’s a fine line isn’t it. Technically the app isn’t on while you are doing this. Be careful doing this around airports and some other areas though because I think it is illegal.

Also, don’t crash. Cash rides aren’t insured.
